StudentUK is an independent UK student resource and online community providing information, guides and community features for prospective students, college students, university students, international students, postgraduates and graduates. Our website covers university applications, UCAS, student accommodation, Student Finance, bank accounts, budgeting, scholarships, student discounts, part-time jobs, travel, health and wellbeing, international study, university life and graduate careers. StudentUK also provides student chat rooms and community features where eligible users can communicate and share experiences.
StudentUK is an independent service and is not a university, college, government department, UCAS, Student Finance organisation or other official educational body unless expressly stated otherwise. By continuing to use StudentUK, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions, our Privacy Policy and any Community Rules that apply to the services you use.
2. Eligibility and Minimum Age
StudentUK educational guides and publicly available resources may be viewed without creating an account. However, you must be at least 16 years old to create an account, use StudentUK chat rooms or participate in interactive community features. By registering or participating in the StudentUK community, you confirm that you are aged 16 or over and agree to follow these Terms & Conditions and our Community Rules.
Users under the age of 16 must not create an account or participate in StudentUK chat rooms or interactive community features. If we reasonably believe that an account is being used by someone below the minimum permitted age, we may restrict, suspend or remove the account.
3. StudentUK User Accounts
Some StudentUK services, particularly student chat rooms and community features, may require you to create an account or username. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and login details and for activity carried out through your account. You must not knowingly allow another person to use your account, access another user’s account without permission, impersonate another person or provide misleading information for fraudulent or abusive purposes.
If you believe someone has gained unauthorised access to your account, you should change your login credentials where possible and contact StudentUK. You must not create additional accounts or use another person’s account to avoid a warning, restriction, suspension or permanent ban. StudentUK may restrict accounts where necessary to protect users, maintain the community or enforce these terms.
4. Student Chat Rooms and Community Rules
StudentUK provides student chat rooms and community features where eligible users can meet people, ask questions, share experiences, make new friends and discuss university, college and student life. Users are responsible for the messages, profile information, images and other content they choose to post or share. StudentUK does not necessarily endorse or verify statements, opinions, recommendations or advice posted by members, and user-generated content represents the views and experiences of the individual users who provide it.
Everyone participating in the StudentUK community must treat other members respectfully. Harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, hate speech, discrimination, scams, fraud, spam, impersonation, deliberate disruption, unlawful activity and attempts to evade moderation are prohibited. Users must also follow any additional Community Rules displayed within StudentUK or individual chat rooms. Breaches may result in content removal, warnings, restrictions, temporary suspension or permanent removal from the community.
5. Safety, Moderation and Reporting
StudentUK may use moderators, automated systems, reporting features, blocking or ignore tools and other measures to help maintain a safe and respectful community. Users should report content or behaviour that they reasonably believe breaches our rules and may use available blocking features to prevent unwanted communication. StudentUK may review reports and, where appropriate, remove content, issue warnings, restrict features, mute users, suspend accounts or permanently ban users. Serious safety, security or legal violations may result in immediate action without prior warning.
You should also take reasonable precautions when communicating with people you meet online. Do not publicly share sensitive information such as your home address, passwords, banking information or identification documents. Be particularly cautious if someone asks you to send money, provide financial information, share intimate or highly personal material, move conversations away from StudentUK or arrange an in-person meeting. StudentUK cannot guarantee the identity, intentions or accuracy of information provided by every member, so users should read and follow our Safety information and Community Rules.
6. User-Generated Content and Intellectual Property
You remain responsible for content that you submit, upload, send or publish through StudentUK. By submitting content through our services, you grant StudentUK the permissions reasonably necessary to host, store, display, reproduce, transmit and technically process that content for the purpose of operating, providing and moderating the service. You must only share material that you have the right to use and must not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other legal rights. StudentUK may remove or restrict access to content where reasonably necessary to enforce our rules, protect users, comply with legal obligations or maintain the service.
Unless otherwise stated, the StudentUK name, branding, website design, original written content, graphics and other materials created for StudentUK are owned by or licensed to StudentUK and may be protected by applicable intellectual property laws. StudentUK content may be used for personal and non-commercial purposes, but substantial portions of the website must not be systematically copied, scraped, republished, distributed, sold or commercially exploited without permission except where permitted by law. If you believe material available through StudentUK infringes your intellectual property rights, please contact us with details of the material concerned.
7. Student Guides and Information Disclaimer
StudentUK aims to provide useful, clear and accurate information for students, but our guides and resources are provided for general informational purposes only. University entry requirements, UCAS procedures, tuition fees, Student Finance rules, accommodation costs, scholarships, bank accounts, overdrafts, student discounts, employment rules, transport prices, visa requirements and other student-related information may change. Important information should therefore be verified with the relevant university, government department, UCAS, Student Finance body, bank, accommodation provider or other official organisation before you make significant decisions.
Information relating to money, health and wellbeing, immigration, employment or other specialist subjects should not be treated as personalised legal, financial, medical, immigration or other regulated professional advice. Bank products and eligibility can change, individual health circumstances require appropriate professional assessment, and immigration requirements depend on personal circumstances and current law. Where appropriate, users should consult the relevant official source or suitably qualified professional.
8. External Links, Affiliate Relationships and Advertising
StudentUK may link to universities, government services, banks, accommodation providers, retailers, travel companies, employers and other third-party websites or services. These organisations operate independently from StudentUK, and we do not control their content, availability, security, privacy practices, prices, products or services. A link from StudentUK does not necessarily constitute an endorsement, and users should review the current information, terms and privacy policies provided by third parties before making a purchase, submitting an application, providing personal information or entering into an agreement.
Some StudentUK pages may contain affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content or advertising. StudentUK may receive a commission when a user follows certain links and subsequently makes a purchase, opens an account, completes a booking or performs another qualifying action; using an affiliate link will not normally increase the price paid by the user. Commercial relationships do not guarantee that a product or service is suitable for you, and users remain responsible for comparing providers, checking eligibility and reviewing applicable terms before making a decision. Sponsored or commercial relationships will be identified where required.
9. Privacy and Data Protection
StudentUK respects the privacy of its users. Information about how we collect, use, store and protect personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy, while information about cookies and similar technologies may be provided through our Cookie Policy and cookie settings where applicable. Users should review these policies to understand how information is handled when using StudentUK.
Because StudentUK community features are available to users aged 16 and over, users should be particularly careful about information they make publicly available through profiles, messages or chat rooms. StudentUK will handle personal information in accordance with its applicable privacy information and data-protection obligations, but users remain responsible for information they voluntarily disclose to other members.
10. Website Availability, Liability and User Interactions
StudentUK aims to keep its website, student resources and community services available and functioning correctly, but uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed. Services may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, upgrades, technical problems, security incidents or circumstances outside our reasonable control, and we may modify, replace, restrict or discontinue features where reasonably necessary. StudentUK also cannot guarantee that all published information will always be complete, current or free from errors, or that particular members will be online or respond to messages.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful or removes statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded. To the extent permitted by applicable law, StudentUK is not responsible for losses resulting from reliance on general informational content, information or advice provided by other users, interactions between users, third-party websites or services, or misuse of StudentUK contrary to these terms. Users are responsible for deciding how they interact with other members and for taking reasonable precautions when communicating with people they meet online.
11. Suspension, Termination and Changes to These Terms
StudentUK may restrict, suspend or terminate an account where we reasonably believe that a user has breached these Terms & Conditions or our Community Rules, threatened the safety or security of another user, attempted to disrupt the service, engaged in unlawful or abusive activity or where action is reasonably necessary to protect StudentUK or its users. Serious violations may result in immediate account removal or permanent exclusion without prior warning, and users must not attempt to evade restrictions or bans by creating additional accounts or using another person’s account.
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to StudentUK services, community features, operating practices or legal requirements. Updated terms will be published on this page and the Last updated date will be changed. Where appropriate, additional notice may be provided for significant changes. Continued use of StudentUK after updated terms take effect constitutes acceptance of those terms where permitted by applicable law.
12. Governing Law and Contact Information
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the applicable laws of the jurisdiction in which StudentUK is operated, subject to any mandatory consumer rights or protections that apply based on a user’s place of residence. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to remove or restrict legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
If you have questions about these Terms & Conditions, need to report a problem or want to contact StudentUK about the website or community, please use our Contact Us page. For information about personal data, please read our Privacy Policy, and for rules governing behaviour within our student chat rooms and community, please read our Community Rules.
